FAQs

Seeking support can be difficult, and we value the commitment you are making by considering Reflecting Light Counseling. We are here for you, from the moment you begin to consider which services may be right for you. Many potential clients have common questions. We hope this information will make it easier for you to make decisions about your care.

Here are the answers to Frequently Asked Questions to help guide you as you make an informed decision to support your goals for healing and personal growth. If you have questions that have not been answered here, please set up a free consultation and we will be glad to discuss them with you!

  • During our phone consultation, we will discuss if I might be a good fit for you and/or your family, what brings you to therapy, your goals, or anything in particular you are seeking. We will discuss my experience with similar concerns and if we would like to schedule an initial 60-minute session to begin our work together. If we decide that we are not well matched for your current needs, additional resources will be provided (e.g., information for other therapists, support groups, organizations, hotlines).

  • Our initial 60-minute appointment will involve collaborating on therapy goals, getting to know more about you and/or your child’s resilience and strengths, and your history. We will also discuss confidentiality and any initial questions you may have. Prior to this session, intake forms and documents will be provided for review. These must be completed prior to our meeting. At the end of session, we will discuss initial thoughts, our plan going forward, and we can schedule another session if you choose. Additionally, if we are going to be collaborating with other professionals (e.g., a medical doctor, school staff, ect), I will have you sign a form permitting contact.

  • Therapy is an investment in you, in your relationships and your well-being. Reflecting Light charges $130 per 45-50 min. session and accepts some insurance plans. If Reflecting Light is out of network, we can provide documentation needed for families to file a claim themselves.  All fees are due on the day of service with the exception of group fees which are charged monthly.

  • We accept most major credit cards as forms of payment. Session fees billed within 1-2 days.

  • Reflecting Light understands that utilizing your insurance coverage may be preferred. Reflecting Light utilizes outside companies (Headway and Alma) to credential with Optum (includes UnitedHealthcare, Oscar, Oxford), Aetna, and Cigna. Please contact your insurance provider with any and all coverage questions; their phone number can be found on the back of your insurance card.

  • Absolutely! For our “out of network” clients, a “superbill” will be provided upon request and will include all the billing information your insurance requires for reimbursement. Clients then submit the superbill to their insurance (usually just a simple online upload), and the insurance company will reimburse Clients according to their Out of Network reimbursement rates, usually within a couple weeks. Please call your insurance company and ask about your “Out of network coverage for mental or behavioral health”; their phone number can be found on the back of your insurance card.

  • Some questions that you may wish to ask your insurance company include:

-Do my benefits cover mental health?

-If I have mental health benefits, do my benefits include out-of-network providers?

-What portion of the amount that I pay will I be reimbursed upon seeing an out-of-network mental health provider?

-Do I need pre-approval or a referral before obtaining out-of-network mental health services to be reimbursed?

-How and where do I submit my bills for out-of-network mental health services?

  • We understand that life happens, and that there are times when you may need to reschedule. We ask that you please notify us at least twenty four (24) hours in advance. Clients who miss an appointment or reschedule without at least twenty four hours’ advance notice will be charged the full cost of the scheduled session.
